DTP and DTP-HB VACCINES

1. Why that a child will get a fever after DTP immunization ?
There were two kind of DTP vaccine DTwP and DTaP. DTwP which contains whole cell pertissis 40-75% will induced fever especially at the first 24 hours. This symptom can be reduced by giving the child antipyretic at once after immunization.

2. May this DTwP vaccine given to the child with history of seizure which induced by fever ?
For the child with history of seizure which induced by fever is recommende to receive DtaP vaccine.

3. If the child who received DTwP immunization not get any fever, does it mean that the vaccine is not effective ?
No. Reaction after immunization is very individual. Not all the baby who received DTwP vaccine will get fever.

 

 

MEASLES VACCINE

1. My son had reveived Measles vaccination at 9 months of age. But when he was 5 years old he got Measles disease, why ?
Measles immunization before 1 year of age will not give long protection, so he must get second opportunity. In Indonesia Measles immunization was recommended at 9 months of age to reduce the fatality rate among infant. Besides, there were some diseases which have similar symptoms with measles. It's better to have laboratorium confirmation.

2. My son had suffered from measles at 8 months of age, is it necessary to give the measles immunization at 9 months of age ?
There are several diseases which have similar symptoms with measles disease. It's better to have the laboratory confirmation. If it was measles, it is not necessary to give measles vaccination.

BCG VACCINE

1. My doughter had received BCG immunization at birth, but when she was 7 years old, the doctor said that she got the TBC infection, why ?
The effectifity of BCG vaccine is still a debate among experts. Some experts say that the effectivity were between 0-80%. But it proved to be protective for severe TBC infection such as meningitis, TBC disseminata , etc.

 

 

THIMEROSAL ISSUE

1. Does Bio Farma vaccine contain thimerosal ?
Yes, untill now some of Bio farma product still contain thimerosal. There were still no theory or method which proved any corelation between autism and thimerosal. The Strategic Advisory Group of Experts (SAGE) had concluded that no evidence of the toxic effect of thimerosal in infant, children and adult, so no reason to forbid the use of thimerosal.
