National Polio & Measles Laboratory

Bio Farma as vaccine producer is equipped with Public Health Laboratory, it plays an important role in Global Polio Eradication and Measles Reduction in Indonesia as a National Laboratory for Polio and Measles surveillance.

Since 1960s, started as a Virology laboratory, this laboratory had improved its performance and got the accreditation from WHO at the end of 1996 to be one of National Polio Laboratory in WHO Global Polio Laboratory Network, South East Asia Region (SEARO). and as a reference lab. for other two National Polio Laboratories in Indonesia (Jakarta and Surabaya) for ITD ( Intratypic differentiation) Every year Bio Farma National Polio Lab. always pass the proficiency test panel and Polio Lab accreditation (onsite review) held by WHO.

Even though had succeed as a National Polio Laboratory, this lab. keep abreast on improving its capability. This lab had started to involve in Measles surveillance since 1998 then since 2002 has joined the WHO Measles Laboratory Network, South East Asia Region (SEARO) in Measles surveillance, and was appointed as confirmation laboratory for the other three National Measles Laboratories in Indonesia (Jakarta, Yogyakarta and Surabaya). This lab also always pass the proficiency test panel and Measles Lab accreditation (onsite review) held by WHO every year.
