(13/06) Bio Farma held a media workshop event that took place at Bio Farma office on 13 June 2014 and at Dusun Bambu Lembang on 14 June 2014. The annual event will be attended both by national and local (Bandung) media partners with following speakers: Corporate Secretary, Rahman Rustan, Head of Domestic Sales Bio Farma Drajat Alamsyah, as well as the representative of Indonesian Pediatrician Association (IPA) dr. Piprim B Yunarso. The event theme was titled “Dedicated to Improve Quality of Life”. At this opportunity, the flubio vaccines were given to all journalists who participated in the media gathering. In this event, Rahman explained that Bio Farma has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with a research institution from Tunisia on 6 May 2014 at Bio Farma office in Bandung. The agreement was agreed upon by both country members of Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and was the result of OIC meeting in Dubai last year, wherein the cooperation between OIC members to create vaccines independently and to discover new vaccines through research was approved. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was officially signed by Bio Farma  President Director, Iskandar and Pasteur Institute of Tunis General Director, Prof Laozir, and was witnessed by Ministry of Health Republic of Indonesia General Director for Pharmaceutical and Medical Tools Maura Linda Sitanggang and the ambassadors of both countries. In that MoU, Bio Farma agreed to assist Pasteur Institute of Tunis to provide experts, technological transfer, and bulk products, especially to create vaccines that can fulfill basic immunization program including BCG, DTP, Polio, Smallpox and Hepatitis B. In addition, Pasteur Institute of Tunis is planning to collaborate with the research department to discover new vaccines. According to Rahman, that collaboration is initiated by the OIC countries that wish to independently produce the vaccines considering that Indonesia is the only country among 57 other Islamic countries able to produce vaccines independently, from the beginning to the end, “Among 57 members of OIC, there are nine countries (including Indonesia) which have had vaccine manufacturers. However, only Indonesia has the ability to produce vaccines independently from upstream to downstream, and has obtained the certification from WHO” said Rahman. Rahman added that besides Tunisia, other members of OIC, such as Saudi Arabia, Pasteur Institute of Iran, have also cooperated with Bio Farma to develop vaccines. Several non-OIC country members such as India, Thailand, and South Africa have also conducted technological transfer from Bio Farma.
