Pemberantasan Tifus Diintensifkan

Penyakit tifus masih menjadi ancaman serius bagi negara-­negara berkembang, termasuk Indonesia. Sehubungan dengan hal itu, Kementerian Kesehatan mengaktifkan pemberantasakan penyebaran penyakit yang mematikan itu. "Sampai saat ini, (tifus) masih menjadi masalah, seperti di negara berkembang," kata Direktur Pusat Biomedis dan Teknologi Dasar Kesehatan Kementerian Kesehatan, Pretty Multihartina. Pretty yang ditemui pada Konferensi Internasional tentang Tifus dan Penyakit non-­typhoid Salmonella di Bali, pekan lalu, mengatakan, kelompok usia yang paling rentan terkena penyakit tersebut adalah pada rentang usia lima hingga 24 tahun. Berdasarkan hasil Riset Kesehatan Dasar pada 2007,­ pemerintah menemukan sebanyak 1,6 persen dari sekitar 900 ribu responden berbagai umur mengaku pernah didiagnosis penyakit tifus. Mengingat penyakit tifus dan invasive salmonela masih menjadi masalah kesehatan utamanya di negara berkembang, maka diharapkan perlu kerja sama untuk mengembangkan alat diagnostik serta vaksin yang selektif untuk pengobatan yang mudah dijangkau. Typhoid remains a serious threat to developing countries, including Indonesia. In this connection, the Ministry of Health intensifies the eradication of the spread of the deadly disease. "Up to the present day, (typhoid) is still an issue in developing countries," said the Director of Biomedical Center and Health Basic Technology of the Ministry of Health, Pretty Multihartina. Pretty, who was met at the International Conference on Typhoid Diseases and non-typhoid  Salmonella in Bali last week, said, the age group that is most susceptible to the disease is in the age range of five to 24 years. Based on the results of Basic Health Research in 2007, the government has discovered as many as 1.6 percent of approximately 900 thousand respondents of all ages who have confessed to have been diagnosed with typhoid. Given that the typhoid disease and invasive salmonella are still a major health issue in developing countries, it is then expected a cooperation to develop selective diagnostic tools and vaccines for treatments that is easily accessible.
